Wonder Woman sequel starts principal photography this May and adds a new female villain in the form of Kristen Wiig.
On May 28, Warner Bros. will start filming the anticipated sequel of the $821 million worldwide grosser in the United Kingdom.
“We’re in what I would call development of the screenplay.” Roven explained. “We finally, I think, have a good story to tell. Not kind of – we do believe we have a good story to tell. And then we’re also just moving out of what normally we would call soft prep into hard prep. We’re hoping to start shooting the movie sometime this summer, and hope to have it out by the end of ’19.” –Comicbook.com
As for casting news, Saturday Night Live alum Kristen Wiig (Bridesmaids, Welcome to Me) is in talks to play a villain. Variety reports that Wiig is the “top choice” to play Diana Prince’s major adversary, Cheetah. There have been four reincarnations of The Cheetah: Priscilla Rich, a World War II-era socialite; Deborah Domaine, Rich’s wealthy niece; Barbara Ann Minerva, a British archaeologist; and as Sebastian Ballesteros, a businessman. The Hollywood Reporter states that Wiig might be playing Dr. Barbara Ann Minerva– a British anthropologist and heiress who gains the powers of the cheetah after an expedition to an African jungle.
Gal Gadot returns as Diana Prince a.k.a. Wonder Woman along with Patty Jenkins once again holding the creative reigns.
Wonder Woman 2 is set to hit theaters on November 1, 2019.
