…thus we finally lose our faith in Hollywood.
We may have had poked fun on the idea of Sony making a Lego movie years before the feature premiered in 2014. Yet we were blown away by the animation, the lovable well-rounded characters and the surprisingly philosophical script that got nominated in the Oscars (who knew, right?).
At the same time when the Lego movie was in production, movies about other childhood nostalgic games happen.
Today, it’s not a surprise anymore that movies based on games, video games, toys etc…, like Michael Bay’s Transformers or GI Joe, are successful (in spite being critically panned). By the way here are a few upcoming films that will be based on toys. Including Hungry Hungry Hippos, and Stretch Armstrong with Taylor Lautner.
Now it seems that movie studios are now making movies about unlikely subjects: Emojis (from the controversial Sony) and just recently a Pez Candy dispenser movie to be made by Envison Media Arts. This is what they have to say about their film prospect:
“PEZ Candy is beloved by children and adults alike,” EMA CEO and founder Lee Nelson said. “With Cameron Fay (screenwriter) we’ve created a world unique to Pez and a story that will touch the hearts of many.”
With the emoji movie, I have no trouble coming up a story line (this is sarcasm). However the Pez one has given me a headache.
Hollywood has definitely lost it’s marbles, don’t care about original ideas because they have turned to pop culture symbols for profit.
