A Scotland new website reports that Rian Johnson will start shooting the first movie of his new untitled Star Wars Trilogy in June, 2018 in Scotland. Take this as a grain of salt though.
The ending of the Last Jedi gave us a sneak peek of new stories and characters outside of the Skywalker saga. The first of this is the new upcoming trilogy by Rian Johnson. The Scotsman, Scotland’s national news publication, reports that that first film will start shooting next June in Argyll and areas in the north of Scotland. Particularly Rest and Be Thankful, the famous pass between Loch Long and Loch Awe and a major road in the south of Argyll and Bute.
A source told the Sunday Mail: “As is now customary with any Star Wars production, the movie is shrouded in secrecy but they want to shoot scenes around the Rest and Be Thankful. Further filming has been pencilled in for elsewhere in the country.”
Release date of the new trilogy is still unknown.
While we wait, Disney and Lucasfilm continues to churn in with upcoming Star Wars: Anthology Series movies. We have the Han Solo origin film, Solo: A Star Wars Story which is set for release in May 25, 2018. Meanwhile, the next spin-off standalone film have rumors that it will be about Boba Fett, Yoda or Obi-Wan Kenobi.
Rian Johnson directed the recently released and box-office/critical success Star Wars: The Last Jedi. The supposed last and third movie of the Skywalker saga is the untitled Star Wars: Episode IX that will be directed by returning director J.J. Abrams. It has a release date of December 20, 2019.
