Bumblebee is about the Autobot finding refuge in a junkyard in a small Californian beach town. Charlie (Hailee Steinfeld), on the cusp of turning 18 and trying to find her place in the world, discovers Bumblebee, battle-scarred and broken. When Charlie revives him, she quickly learns this is no ordinary, yellow VW bug.
Directing the movie is Travis Knight (Kubo and the Two Strings) from a script by Christina Hodson (Shut In). Bumblebee is being produced by franchise veterans Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Michael Bay, along with executive producers Steven Spielberg, Brian Goldner and Mark Vahradian. Chris Brigham will also executive produce. The film recently kicked off production in California.
Cena recently appeared in Doug Liman’s The Wall opposite Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and in HBO’s film Tour de Pharmacy.
Bumblebee has a release date of Dec. 21, 2018.
