He wants the future Star Wars movies to “look the way the world looks.”
Abrams expressed his wish to the press at the US-Ireland Alliance Oscar Wilde Awards on Thursday, People reports.
“When I talk about inclusivity, it’s not excluding gay characters, it’s about inclusivity, so of course…To me the fun of Star Wars is exploring the possibilities, so it seems insanely narrow-minded to say that there wouldn’t be a homosexual character in that world.”
J.J. Abrams may have relinquished his role as director in the next two Star Wars movies that will be coming out in the near future, however he still holds the role as executive producer. And judging by the diverse characters in The Force Awakens (Rey, the female lead. And Finn is black and Poe is Hispanic), his wish might come true. Although, there were no signs of homosexuality so far from the new characters (Finn and Poe are clearly straight…so far), maybe one or few of the future characters will be.
But seriously though, as if the former characters of Star Wars ever cared about telling everyone they were straight, gay, bi or asexual. Maybe just drop some hints like what the Harry Potter Universe had done to Dumbledore (we’re sure he looks great with a flowered hat that he probably made with his knitting skills) so we can be without the unnecessary and pesky romance plot lines.
But C3-PO was clearly gay, right?
