HERE ARE THE 2017 MOVIES THAT ARE GETTING SEQUELS AND THE FILMS THAT ARE UNLIKELY TO GET THEIRS.
EXTENDING THE FRANCHISE
Marvel and Disney’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2 is definitely getting a follow up with a Vol. 3. The sequel earned $862 Million worldwide which is more than the first movie ($773 Million). Still, the studios knew that a threequel will happen even just two weeks before the premiere of Volume 2.
Wonder Woman is MOST definitely getting a sequel. The cast announced it during the 2017 San Diego Comic Con even before it ultimately got its record breaking $806 Million.
Despicable Me 3 is becoming to be the highest grossing animated franchise of all time. It earned $971 Million and will definitely be followed by a fourth movie.
UNLIKELY OR MAYBE EXTENDING
King Arthur: Legend of the Sword bombed in the box-office with $146 Million and got a weepy 28% percent on Rotten Tomatoes. Such a slap in the face by Warner Bros who, along with other studios like Village Roadshow, spent $175 Million on the budget. They even planned a whole franchise but is King Arthur and his men at the round table really what audiences want?
Alien: Covenant only made 43% less than its predecessor, Prometheus, so the franchise is still in the dark.
Pirates of the Carribean: Dead Men Tell No Tales will not be followed by a sixth movie…for now at least. It earned $789 Million which is a step back from that $1.04 Billion that the 4th film, Stranger Tides, got. Still, the main cast is still game for another movie and POTC is a favorite franchise in Disney.
Baywatch was a sink and swim. It almost bombed box-office if it wasn’t for the overseas market. It earned $177 Million but won’t be earning a sequel anytime soon.
