Donald Glover (Community, The Lazarus Effect) was famous to join in the fan campaign to garner the role of Spider-Man when Sony’s “The Amazing Spider-Man” was still in the works.
The role eventually was acquired by Andrew Garfield. But now that Sony and Marvel are working together to (again!) reboot the web slinging hero. Will the actor, this time again, join in the internet campaign that has begun?
Yahoo News sat with the actor for his film “Things We’ve Always Wondered” and asked if he wants to be the next Spider-Man.
“Of course, I would always be honored to play Spider-Man. But I just want the Spider-Man movie to be dope, that’s all I want.”
And this time, he is leaving the campaigning on the fans that wants Miles Morales to be in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
“I’m leaving it to them. Campaigning’s part of life, but for me, I’ve got a lot of stuff that I’m really excited about, and dropping it all… of course it’d be an honor. But it’s fine, if it comes, if not.”
There’s nothing wrong with Childish Gambino (his rapper name) to be the next Spider-Man. Although, it would be a continuity conflict since Peter Parker is not yet dead according to the movie adaptations, thus, it would be too quick and unreasonable to have Miles. Also, the actor is in his thirties meanwhile the African-Latino Spider-Man is in his teen years.
For now, the studios want to resurrect high schooler Peter Parker. Their minds still has not changed yet.
Then again, some fresh news came out that they have a change of heart. Could this be the rise of the new Spidey?
