Anyone who watches NBC’s ‘Parks and Recreation’ can remember the first moment when they were surprised, maybe shocked, how fit and hunky-looking Chris Pratt looked on his first selfie-promotion for ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’.
Okay, so maybe it was just me, but still ‘Star Lord’ (a.k.a. Mr. Pratt) did a lot of sacrifices to change his lifestyle, stay fit and stick with it. And in return, got the best role in one of the most successful movies of the year.
However, did you know that Chris Pratt almost turned down the role due to a previous audition for a past movie? The whole experience resulted to Chris having low-self esteem for his body and believing that he will never book an action-hero role.
In an interview with Esquire, he confesses:
“When Guardians of the Galaxy was pitched to me, I said, ‘I don’t think so.’ I just didn’t picture myself getting the role,” Pratt says. “I didn’t want to go and embarrass myself like I did when I auditioned for G.I. Joe a couple of years previously. I went in there, and halfway through I saw the director’s eyes just glaze over. It made sense — I was a little heavy and out of shape. I was not gonna play someone from G.I. Joe. I did not look like a G.I. Joe action figure come to life.”
However, he finally turned around and gave the role a try. Yes, he got the role but he also got more, and he’s thankful for that.
“I can do 40-inch box jumps now. Action-hero physical stuff,” he says. “Jumping that high feels really good. You see a giant hillside, and you think, I wanna get up that. You see a building, you think, I could climb that. When you get in shape, the world around you becomes things you wanna jump on and climb up.”
Star-Lord is certainly an inspiration for all of us.
