A sneak peek of the Captain Marvel costume shows a deviation from the concept art shown at SDCC last July 2017, which leaves us, viewers, asking “why?”
Page Six posted pics and a clip of Brie Larson as Captain Marvel while filming on set in Atlanta last Wednesday, January 24th. The Oscar winner who now fills the shoes of the human-Kree hybrid superhero is seen in a blue, green costume – a far cry from the one depicted on a concept art for the stand-alone Captain Marvel movie.
The Captain Marvel casting announcement happened in 2016 at SDCC when Brie Larson was also promoting Kong: Skull Island. The announcement was made before the end of the Marvel Panel at the big Hall H. Feige welcomed Larson to the stage as he ushered the rest of the Marvel family for a group photo.
As to the drastic color change, nobody knows for sure why. Maybe the green is used for post-production effects. Maybe this is a Kree prototype. Maybe someone mixed the costume with some greens and blues in the washer. Who knows?
Directing the film are Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck (Mississippi Grind, It’s Kind of a Funny Story). Kevin Feige is producing. Writing the script are Geneva Robertson-Dworet and Meg LaFauve. Nicole Perlman wrote earlier drafts.
The film has a release date of March 8, 2019.
