The celestial beings have been cast. Introducing the actresses playing the three wise women in Disney and Ava DuVernay’s adaptation of “A Wrinkle in Time”.
On choosing the actresses, the director shared that she had this in mind:
“My whole process with this film was, what if? With these women, I wondered, could we make them women of different ages, body types, races? Could we bring in culture, bring in history in their costumes? And in the women themselves, could we just reflect a fuller breadth of femininity?”
Entertainment Weekly’s got the first look at the three wise eccentric women who assist the young heroine in the movie.
Reese Witherspoon will play the inquisitive and innocent-looking (Mrs. Whatsit)
Mindy Kaling as the philosophizing Mrs. Who who looks she can bore holes through the walls.
And Oprah Winfrey will act as the wizened Mrs. Which, the leader of the trio.
A Wrinkle in Time tells the story of Meg Murry (Storm Reid) who sets off in search of her father when he goes missing. Along the way, she meets three cosmic beings—Mrs. Who, Mrs. Whatsit, and Mrs. Which—who help her track down her father and the Tesseract. Disney promises a cosmic movie adventure in “which clock ticks, time bends, space shifts, and Oprah is your planet-hopping tour guide through all of it.”
Also starring in the movie are Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Chris Pine, and Zach Galifianakis among others.
