We’ve brought you the teaser last week. Now, we get to watch Amy Adams and Jeremy Renner, and what they’re up against in the newest theatrical trailer of Arrival.
Arrival‘s first trailer shows us a glimpse of the aliens and their spiral form of a language. Amy Adams stars as renowned linguist Dr. Louise Banks who is entrusted by the US government to communicate with the unexpected extraterrestrial visitors. Ian Donnelly (Jeremy Renner) joins Dr. Banks in the mission to know where the aliens come from and what on earth are they here for?
Denis Villeneuve‘s Arrival is based on Ted Chiang‘s sci-fi short story, Story of Your Life. Chiang’s works have garnered prestigious awards- Nebula and Hugo awards, to name a few. His intelligible writing style is evidenced in The Story of Your Life, which is written in two tenses. One which will tell about Dr. Banks’ mission on the aliens while the other is of moments about to be shared with her daughter. Just a few pages into the Story of Your Life, Dr. Banks is stated to start off an introduction by pointing to herself while saying “human” repeatedly, which is shown in the clip. Only this time, written in bold letters on a piece of whiteboard.
Fans of the original short story must be excited to see how Ted Chiang‘s masterpiece will be laid on the big screen with Villeneuve at the helm and Eric Heisserer penning the script.
When mysterious spacecrafts touch down across the globe, an elite team – lead by expert linguist Louise Banks (Amy Adams) – is brought together to investigate. As mankind teeters on the verge of global war, Banks and the team race against time for answers – and to find them, she will take a chance that could threaten her life, and quite possibly humanity.
Arrival is set to arrive in theaters this November.
