Ant-Man and The Wasp is revealed to be Marvel’s first superhero romantic-comedy movie.
To avoid Superhero movie fatigue, Marvel has re-invented superhero movies by putting them in sub-genres. For example, Captain America: The Winter Soldier is a political thriller, Spider-Man: Homecoming is a teen movie, and Thor: Ragnarok has some sci-fi themes. Now, Ant-Man and The Wasp is considered as a romantic-comedy movie as much as it is a superhero flick. The romantic tension between Paul Rudd’s Scott Lang and Evangeline Lilly’s Hope Van Dyne will contribute to that.
Not to mention that the main stars and director Peyton Reed are known for romantic-comedies. The first Ant-Man film was considered a heist thriller-dramedy.
Ant-Man and the Wasp is an upcoming American superhero film based on the Marvel Comics characters Scott Lang / Ant-Man and Hope van Dyne / Wasp. Produced by Marvel Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, it is intended to be the sequel to 2015’s Ant-Man, and the twentieth film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). The film is directed by Peyton Reed with a screenplay by the writing teams of Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, Andrew Barrer and Gabriel Ferrari, and Paul Rudd, and stars Rudd, Evangeline Lilly, Bobby Cannavale, Michael Peña, Tip “T.I.” Harris, Judy Greer, David Dastmalchian, Michael Douglas, Michelle Pfeiffer, Laurence Fishburne, Hannah John-Kamen, Randall Park, and Walton Goggins. In Ant-Man and the Wasp, Lang teams up with van Dyne to embark on a new mission from Hank Pym.
The film is scheduled for a July, 2018 release.
