We really don’t want this but The Mummy reboot is happening with Tom Cruise and newcomer Sofia Boutella. It also now has a release date!
As much as the Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz’s “The Mummy” films were enough, Universal Studios are still set to reboot them. In an attempt to rival the superhero cinematic universes of Marvel and DC/Warner Bros, Universal wants to start its own Monster Cinematic Universe.
History movie buffs know that Universal Studios were known for their monster movies (Dracula, The Wolf Man, and Frankenstein) during the Hollywood golden years, and today they want to relive it again.
Reports say that The Mummy reboot will be their first movie to start the universe. Then will be followed by Dracula, Van Helsing, Bride of Frankenstein and the Wolfman reboots.
The movie already has a release date on June 9, 2017. Alex Kurtzman will be directing. Chris Morgan and Sean Daniel to produce. Jon Spaihts is writing the script. Cruise isn’t expected to produce however “he will play a major part in development.”
