Cate Blanchett embraces her dark side in Entertainment Weekly’s super double issue (March 17/24, 2017) for Thor: Ragnarok.
A new evil is released and takes form in Hela, the Asgardian goddess of death. Entertainment Weekly reveals that Hela is accidentally unleashed from her prison and is nowhere near planning of going back. EW adds that Hela, with all her magical, goth powers, sends Thor to a desolate planet called Sakaar where the people are as strong as him. In Sakaar, Thor is forced to be a gladiator and fight his fellow Avenger, The Hulk, who has become the planet’s most successful and popular fighter.
Cate Blanchett is reportedly training with Zoë Bell during the shoot to learn capoeira, a Brazilian martial art that combines elements of dance, acrobatics and music.
“She’s been locked away for millennia getting more and more cross, and then, with a mistake, she gets unleashed and she ain’t getting back in that box,” says Blanchett of her character.
Here is the movie’s official synopsis:
In Marvel Studios’ “Thor: Ragnarok,” Thor is imprisoned on the other side of the universe without his mighty hammer and finds himself in a race against time to get back to Asgard to stop Ragnarok – the destruction of his homeworld and the end of Asgardian civilization – at the hands of an all-powerful new threat, the ruthless Hela. But first he must survive a deadly gladiatorial contest that pits him against his former ally and fellow Avenger – the Incredible Hulk!
