Billy Crudup, Katherine Waterston and their crew are starting to regret landing on the mysterious planet in the first trailer for Alien: Covenant.
Ridley Scott is returning to the genre that started his career. The sequel to his 2012 sci-fi, thriller Prometheus, Alien: Covenant, brings back Michael Fassbender and Noomi Rapace. The film adds a new set of cast members, Katherine Waterston, Billy Crudup, Danny McBride and Demián Bichir to name a few. The red-band trailer features Scott’s signature scene, which involves aliens ripping out of human bodies.
But, what is Alien: Covenant and how does it fit within 2012’s Prometheus and the original Alien movie of 1979?
In an interview with Digital Spy, Ridley Scott says that Covenant, which hits theaters this May, is a multi-layered” tale “with some great characters”.
I saw Alien finally succumb after four films, then they also did Alien vs. Predator, after which I thought, ‘Uh-oh, that’s it’ – but then I waited a couple of years, I went back and decided to resurrect it. So we did Prometheus – that heaved it off the ground – and Covenant is a follow-through to Prometheus. So we now know who created this, and why, and the next one’s a joining up of the storyline. It touches on mortality, immortality and the real question of who created us and why.
Alien: Covenant features newcomers Katherine Waterston, Billy Crudup, Danny McBride, Demián Bichir and James Franco. The sequel to Prometheus follows a new team of explorers of the colony ship Covenant as they rediscover the “synthetic” David (Michael Fassbender) – survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition. Discovering David is only the tip of the iceberg of the whole exploration as the crew uncovers the uncharted paradise’s hellish side.
Alien: Covenant is slated to hit theaters on the 19th of May, 2017.
